What This School Does Well

This school excels at creating a joyful learning environment where children develop strong academic knowledge from their earliest years. The outstanding teaching of reading, combined with a broad curriculum that includes languages and extensive enrichment activities, ensures pupils are well-rounded and excited about learning. Strong behaviour, high attendance and excellent support for all learners - including those with SEND - make this a school where every child can thrive.

Key Strengths

  • Exceptionally strong early reading teaching with systematic phonics from Reception - children become confident, fluent readers
  • Broad and ambitious curriculum including Mandarin from Year 1 and high take-up of English Baccalaureate
  • Excellent support for pupils with SEND - needs identified quickly and learning activities adapted successfully
  • Strong focus on developing vocabulary and spoken language across all phases
  • Extensive range of clubs, trips and wider learning opportunities including free music lessons and whole-school band

Areas for Improvement

  • Sixth-form students do not access as many opportunities to develop talents and interests compared to younger pupils in the school
  • A-level outcomes in the sixth form are not currently as high as the rest of the school
  • Limited personal development opportunities specifically for sixth-form students

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

Coding, photography, drama, cooking, free music lessons, whole-school band, trips to museums and theatres, London landmarks visits, work experience for sixth-form students

Harris Academy Chobham is an all-through school where pupils thrive and achieve highly across early years, primary and secondary phases. The school provides excellent education with strong foundations from early years through to sixth form, though A-level outcomes are not yet as high as the rest of the school.
