What This School Does Well

Hafs Academy creates a welcoming, inclusive environment where pupils enjoy learning and have strong positive relationships with staff. The school has made good progress redesigning its curriculum and has strong subject knowledge among teachers. Pupils receive excellent support with reading and effective help with individual needs, and they develop positive attitudes towards learning alongside their daily Islamic studies.

Key Strengths

  • Positive behaviour and attitudes - pupils are polite, friendly, and proud of their shared values
  • Effective reading support - pupils read confidently and those needing help receive effective support
  • Strong subject knowledge among teachers
  • Effective safeguarding arrangements and safe, welcoming environment
  • Ambitious curriculum recently redesigned to align with national curriculum expectations

Areas for Improvement

  • Teachers do not routinely check pupils' understanding during lessons or address misconceptions, causing knowledge gaps
  • Learning activities are not consistently designed to help pupils practise and master knowledge in sufficient depth
  • School leaders and trustees lack clear, shared expectations for education quality and strategic plans to embed training in daily practice
  • Pupils struggle to retain and apply what they have learned

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with staff knowing pupils very well and ensuring they are safe in school.

Extracurricular Activities

Boxing club, football club, work experience, talks from external speakers, careers fair

Hafs Academy is a welcoming and inclusive independent school for boys aged 11-16 that has shown some positive developments since its previous inadequate rating, but requires improvement in the overall quality of education and leadership.
