There are 2,766 open schools on the free breakfast clubs programme on School Signal - 2,524 primary, 165 other, 62 all-through. 91.3% of those in England were rated Outstanding or Good at their last graded inspection, against 92.5% of all schools.

About the free breakfast clubs programme
The free breakfast clubs programme pays schools in England to run a breakfast club that every pupil from Reception to Year 6 can go to free of charge. Each club lasts at least 30 minutes, immediately before the start of the school day, and serves a breakfast that meets the school food standards. It started with early adopter schools, and the national rollout began in April 2026, with more schools joining in September 2026.

Of the 2,417 schools on the free breakfast clubs programme in England with a graded Ofsted inspection, 9.7% were last graded Outstanding and 91.3% Outstanding or Good, against 14.4% and 92.5% for all graded schools in England. Who can go to a free breakfast club?
Every pupil on roll from Reception to Year 6 at a school on the programme. The club must be open to all of them, not only to children from lower-income families.
How long is the free breakfast club?
At least 30 minutes, immediately before the start of each school day. A school may run a longer club that starts earlier and charge for the extra time, but it cannot make your child attend the paid-for time to use the free 30 minutes.
My child's school is not on the list. Will it get a free breakfast club?
The government has committed to a free breakfast club in every state-funded school with primary-aged pupils in England, and schools are joining in stages. The Department for Education adds them to its list as they join, so ask your child's school whether it has applied.
