Every figure on School Signal comes from the official record: inspections, exam results, admissions statistics and school details as they are published. Every page shows when each figure is from, so you always know you are looking at the latest. Where we work something out for you, such as an estimated catchment distance, we label it as an estimate and show how we got there.
Our rankings and comparisons are built from those same published results, never from advertising or paid placement. No school can buy a better position. The full detail of how every number is produced is on our data and methodology page.
Who runs School Signal
School Signal is built and run by Alexis Pratsides, its founder. It grew out of the ordinary frustration of trying to compare schools as a parent: the information is all public, and almost none of it is in one place or in plain English. School Signal is the tool we wanted for our own family, made for yours.

New inspection reports, school openings, closures and results land on School Signal as soon as they are published, and every page shows the date behind each figure.
Which parts of the UK do you cover?
All four nations: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Inspection and exam systems differ between them, so each school page shows the measures that apply where it is.
Something on a school page is wrong. What do I do?
Tell us and we fix it. Schools can also claim their own page for free and keep their details current themselves.
