What This School Does Well

The school has made impressive improvements under new leadership, with teachers now providing better support and a strong focus on reading. Pupils behave well, enjoy learning and have developed good relationships with each other and staff. The Early Years Foundation Stage gives children an excellent start with exciting learning activities.

Key Strengths

  • Ambitious headteacher has built a strong leadership team securing rapid improvements in teaching and pupil progress
  • Pupils' behaviour is good with positive attitudes to learning and above-average attendance
  • Progress in Early Years Foundation Stage is good with strong focus on language and early reading skills
  • Effective support for pupils with special educational needs through small group teaching and engaging activities

Areas for Improvement

  • Not all teaching is good - some teachers do not check pupils' learning closely enough to adapt lessons appropriately
  • Pupils do not write enough extended pieces of work, resulting in weak writing progress across the school
  • Work set for more able pupils does not always provide sufficient challenge to extend their learning
  • Handwriting and presentation of pupils' work need to improve with clearer expectations for joined-up writing
