What This School Does Well

This is a happy school where children thrive in a caring environment guided by strong values. Teachers explain learning clearly so most pupils develop secure understanding, and the school provides a rich personal development curriculum that teaches respect, equality and different cultures. There are many clubs and activities available for all children to develop their talents and interests.

Key Strengths

  • Happy, welcoming school community with excellent behaviour and rare bullying
  • Strong curriculum with teachers using good subject knowledge to explain concepts clearly
  • Excellent personal development programme covering equality, respect, British values and different cultures
  • Wide range of enrichment activities and clubs for all pupils
  • Effective safeguarding with regular staff training and quick action when concerns arise

Areas for Improvement

  • Some weaker readers have gaps in phonics knowledge from the previous scheme and struggle with unfamiliar words
  • Strategies for pupils with SEND are not reviewed regularly to check if they remain effective
  • Leaders need better systems to assess whether support for SEND pupils is working well

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with thorough vetting of staff, regular training for adults, swift action when concerns arise, and pupils learning how to stay safe including online safety.

Extracurricular Activities

Sports clubs, art and crafts clubs, performing arts clubs, sound circus orchestra, choir, Ju Jitsu, skateboarding, classroom monitor roles, food ambassadors, eco-warriors, school council, residential visits, visits to places of worship

Guiseley Primary School continues to be a good school where pupils are proud to belong and parents describe it as caring and nurturing. The school has a broad, well-planned curriculum with strong teaching, though some older pupils need support catching up in phonics.
