Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

East Park Academy excels at supporting all pupils to make strong progress, whatever their starting point. The school combines excellent teaching - particularly in phonics and early reading - with a rich programme of activities that helps every child discover and develop their talents. Parents can be confident their child will be well-prepared for secondary school and supported to become a confident, kind and responsible learner.

Key Strengths

  • Excellent phonics teaching with strong staff subject knowledge and quick intervention for pupils needing catch-up support
  • Well-designed curriculum with logical sequences of knowledge that helps pupils connect and remember learning
  • Broad range of extra-curricular activities including clubs, trips, and leadership roles that develop pupils' talents and raise aspirations
  • Strong support for pupils with special educational needs enabling them to access an ambitious curriculum
  • Positive behaviour and respectful relationships supported by the school's 'eight values' and focus on kindness

Areas for Improvement

  • Assessment in some foundation subjects is not focused enough on key knowledge that pupils need to know and embed
  • Too many pupils are absent from school too often, which hinders their learning and achievement
  • The school should continue working with families to reduce persistent absence

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with staff putting children's safety and interests first and the school acting as a safe place for pupils.

Extracurricular Activities

Before and after-school clubs, educational trips, leadership roles in every year group, artist and chef work, sport participation, topic research projects

East Park Academy is an inclusive primary school with high ambitions for all pupils. The school has maintained the outstanding standards from its previous inspection and continues to support pupils to feel happy, secure and successful.
