What This School Does Well
East Birmingham Network Academy excels at building strong, respectful relationships where pupils feel supported and valued. The school is dedicated to helping pupils with disrupted education backgrounds settle in quickly and attend regularly, with nearly all pupils moving on to positive destinations when they leave. Staff understand each pupil as an individual and provide excellent pastoral care that helps pupils manage their behaviour and feel proud to belong.
Key Strengths
- Strong relationships built on mutual respect - pupils feel listened to and supported, with calm, focused behaviour throughout the school
- Excellent pastoral support and attendance - the school works hard to help pupils attend regularly with improving attendance figures
- Close partnership working with home schools, parents and carers to help pupils settle in quickly and manage their behaviour effectively
- Staff act as positive role models and understand individual pupils' strengths and barriers they face
Areas for Improvement
- Curriculum is too narrow - pupils don't study subjects like PE and lack proper preparation for adulthood
- Personal, social and health education introduced only recently, so pupils haven't learned important things for their next steps
- No systematic approach to addressing gaps in knowledge when pupils join the school
- Limited wider opportunities and enrichment activities for pupils to develop talents and interests
- Careers education comes too late - pupils don't visit colleges or learn about apprenticeships until Year 11
Safeguarding
Safeguarding arrangements are effective.
East Birmingham Network Academy is an alternative provision school for pupils aged 13-16 who join at different times with disrupted education histories. Evidence from this January 2025 inspection suggests the school's work may not be as strong as when it was previously judged good, and it will receive a graded inspection next time.
