Topcliffe is a caring school where pupils feel safe and valued. The school is highly ambitious for all children, particularly those with additional needs, and ensures they get the support needed to succeed. Children benefit from many exciting opportunities including the popular GOATI (Get Outside And Try It!) initiative, sports activities, leadership roles, and community involvement that bring learning to life.

Key Strengths

  • Exceptional support for pupils with special educational needs - both in resource bases and main school - enabling them to achieve well and be fully included
  • Outstanding early years provision with highly skilled staff who help children catch up quickly and become independent learners
  • Excellent phonics teaching with consistent, skilled instruction and quick identification of errors
  • Strong focus on personal development and extra-curricular opportunities that build confidence and community involvement
  • Effective behaviour management with staff who model respectful relationships and support pupils with emotional difficulties

  • Curriculum implementation is not consistent across some subjects, meaning pupils do not build knowledge as well as they could in these areas
