What This School Does Well
St Peter's is a warm and inclusive school where all pupils are welcomed and difference is celebrated. Pupils are happy, well-behaved, and engaged in their learning. The school provides excellent support for pupils with additional needs and offers rich educational experiences including visits to local places of worship that bring learning to life.
Key Strengths
- Pupils behave well and live up to the school's values of being ready, respectful and safe
- Effective support for pupils with SEND who learn well with appropriate adaptations
- Strong personal, social and health education programme that prepares pupils well for life in modern Britain
- Educational visits bring the curriculum to life and help pupils explore different faiths
- Governors carry out their duties effectively and are making important staffing changes
Areas for Improvement
- Curriculum is not implemented consistently - some learning activities do not match pupils' next steps, so they do not achieve as well as they should
- In early years, especially Nursery, children do not have enough well-designed opportunities to develop language and communication skills
- School's oversight of curriculum implementation is not robust enough, so weaknesses are not identified and fixed quickly
Safeguarding
Safeguarding arrangements are effective and the school has created a positive culture that puts pupils' interests first.
Extracurricular Activities
Educational visits to local places of worship, school council roles, community fundraising, breakfast club
St Peter's Brafferton is a safe, welcoming school where pupils behave well and are happy. However, the quality of education requires improvement because the curriculum is not being implemented consistently across the school.
