What This School Does Well

The school creates a warm, welcoming environment where pupils behave well and feel safe. Teachers know their pupils well and adapt support for those who need it, including pupils with additional needs and those learning English as an additional language. Children in early years get a strong start with excellent phonics teaching and lots of opportunities to develop language and writing skills.

Key Strengths

  • Strong safeguarding culture where pupils feel safe and concerns are acted upon promptly
  • Positive behaviour and warm relationships between staff and pupils create a calm, orderly learning environment
  • Early years provision is well planned with systematic phonics teaching and emphasis on communication and language
  • Effective inclusive practice ensures pupils with additional needs, disadvantaged pupils and those learning English as an additional language receive tailored support
  • Leaders manage school challenges well and staff feel valued and proud to work at the school

Areas for Improvement

  • Pupils do not always have enough practice time to secure foundational knowledge in reading, writing and maths before moving to new learning, causing misconceptions
  • Published outcomes in reading and mathematics have been below national averages, particularly at the end of Key Stage 2
  • Very few pupils achieve greater depth standards
  • Pupils' deeper understanding of British values and protected characteristics is not yet secure

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met - leaders have established an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and concerns are actively identified, acted upon and managed so pupils feel safe.

Extracurricular Activities

Art club, school sports teams, swimming, bike riding, residential events, sleepovers, outdoor learning, play leaders scheme, school council, pupil librarians

Boroughbridge Primary School is an inclusive school with effective leadership and a welcoming atmosphere where pupils behave well. The school has made progress in early years and is working to improve outcomes in reading and mathematics across all year groups.
