What This School Does Well
St Mark's is a welcoming, inclusive school where pupils behave exceptionally well and feel valued and supported. Teachers work hard to help all pupils make good progress in their learning, and the school offers a rich curriculum including specialist teaching in Spanish, music and PE. Parents are very positive about the school and appreciate how easy it is to communicate with staff.
Key Strengths
- Pupils' behaviour is exceptional - they support each other extremely well and the school keeps them very safe and secure
- Good progress in reading, writing and mathematics across all year groups, with pupils well prepared for their next stage of education
- Strong leadership vision shared by headteacher, governors and staff, with high morale and clear sense of common purpose
- Outstanding provision for pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, promoting British values effectively
- Excellent parental engagement and active involvement in children's education
Areas for Improvement
- More-able pupils are not sufficiently challenged in some lessons and are not making the progress they are capable of
- Teachers do not always follow up their own feedback when marking pupils' work
- Roles and responsibilities of newly appointed senior leaders are not sufficiently clear
- Governors need to be more stringent in holding senior leaders to account for all aspects of school performance
- Key Stage 1 standards remain below national averages over time
