Ofsted Insights

From Ofsted's December 2024 inspection report.

What This School Does Well

This is a warm, inclusive school where children feel cared for and safe. Pupils with additional needs are fully included in school life and receive excellent personalised support. The school has worked hard to improve behaviour and attendance, and is beginning to strengthen the curriculum with better teaching practices.

Key Strengths

  • Behaviour is good with pupils following clear expectations and learning in focused environments
  • Excellent support for pupils with SEND who receive personalised help and develop strong relationships with staff
  • Improved early reading provision with targeted support helping pupils catch up
  • Well-designed early years curriculum with skilful staff interaction
  • Strong personal development focus including mental health support, leadership roles and broad cultural awareness

Areas for Improvement

  • Teaching does not consistently focus on the most important knowledge pupils should learn, sometimes overwhelming them with information
  • Checks on pupils' understanding do not always identify and address gaps in knowledge effectively
  • Independent learning activities in early years are not consistently matched to what children need to learn

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with an open and positive culture that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

School choir, concerts, mindfulness clubs, well-being clubs, school council, librarian roles, door monitor roles, visits to mosques and churches

Spilsby Primary School is a caring and inclusive school where pupils behave well and feel supported by staff. However, the quality of education requires improvement as pupils' knowledge of the curriculum is currently inconsistent, though the school has begun making positive changes.
