What This School Does Well

Silverways School excels at preparing pupils for their future through a comprehensive careers and personal development programme - every Year 11 pupil secures a college place. The school creates a calm, respectful environment where all pupils, regardless of starting points, improve their behaviour and develop positive attitudes to learning. Staff are highly skilled at supporting pupils with autism and complex emotional needs, using specialist knowledge to help each child succeed.

Key Strengths

  • Exceptional behaviour and attitudes - pupils behave extremely well in a calm, respectful school culture
  • Outstanding personal development - strong PSHE programme including relationships, sex education, careers guidance and financial education leading to accredited qualification
  • Excellent reading initiatives - pupils visit central London bookshops and local library, with phonics support for those who need it
  • Strong careers support - all Year 11 pupils secure college places through close working with local colleges and employers
  • Effective support for pupils with complex needs - specialist staff provide targeted support adapted to individual emotional and behavioural needs

Areas for Improvement

  • Curriculum implementation needs to be more consistent across the school - some pupils do not build knowledge steadily over time
  • Teaching does not always provide work that meets pupils' needs effectively - while recent staff training is helping, this needs to be embedded more securely in daily practice
  • Some pupils' previous learning is not built on thoroughly enough during lessons

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective and the school creates an open, positive culture that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

Bookshop visits to central London, local community library visits, financial education accredited qualification, careers programme with local colleges and employers

Silverways School is committed to transforming pupils' lives through strong academic, social and emotional development. The school has been rated as Good overall, with Outstanding ratings for behaviour and attitudes and personal development.
