Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Royton Hall is a caring school where children are polite, well-behaved and concentrate well on their learning. The school has worked hard to improve support for children with additional needs, and all pupils benefit from an ambitious curriculum with high expectations. Children also enjoy trips and visits, including overnight residentials, which enrich their learning.

Key Strengths

  • Strong phonics teaching with well-trained staff and effective support for struggling readers
  • Excellent provision for pupils with SEND, with improved systems and staff training since the previous inspection
  • High expectations for behaviour creating a calm, orderly learning environment
  • Well-developed personal development programme including leadership opportunities and community engagement

Areas for Improvement

  • Reading strategy not fully embedded across older year groups - limited exposure to different authors and literature
  • Assessment checks on pupils' learning not always used effectively to identify and address knowledge gaps
  • Some pupils unable to build successfully on prior learning when gaps remain

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective and the school has created a positive culture that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

Trips and visits including overnight residential, school council, librarian roles

Royton Hall Primary School is a welcoming school where pupils are well cared for and feel proud to attend. The school has an ambitious curriculum and high expectations for achievement across most subjects.
