Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Radbrook Primary School is an inclusive community where staff are driven to do what is best for every child. The school excels at supporting pupils with special needs and teaching reading through an excellent phonics programme. Pupils also benefit from impressive personal development opportunities including trips, charity work, and a range of clubs tailored to their interests.

Key Strengths

  • Excellent support for pupils with SEND, identified quickly and provided effective help to access the same ambitious curriculum as peers
  • Strong phonics teaching programme resulting in pupils becoming confident, fluent readers who enjoy a wide range of books
  • Clear behaviour expectations and routines well established from early years, with calm spaces available for pupils needing behaviour support
  • Impressive personal development provision including Darwin awards, charity fundraising, team building, and environmental activities
  • Well-thought-out curriculum with important knowledge clearly identified, particularly strong in mathematics and English

Areas for Improvement

  • In some subjects, staff are not consistently supported to teach curriculums as intended, meaning pupils do not always learn the most important knowledge effectively
  • Checks on learning in subjects other than English and mathematics do not identify gaps quickly enough, so teachers cannot always spot when pupils need additional help
  • Some ambitious curriculums are not yet fully realised in practice

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

Extracurricular Activities

Darwin awards, charity fundraising, team building activities, environmental care, school councillors, safety squad, eco reps, Year 6 VIP roles with IT support, range of clubs changed regularly to match talents and interests, trips including flax mill visit

Radbrook Primary School is an inclusive school at the centre of its community with high aspirations for all pupils. The school has maintained good standards and pupils achieve well, particularly those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
