- Writing quality is inconsistent across the school - pupils struggle with grammar, punctuation and spelling, and the new writing strategy is not yet fully embedded
- Teaching approaches in some foundation subjects do not always use assessment information effectively to build on pupils' prior learning
- Variability in how well teachers are implementing the new writing strategy and checking pupils' progress
