What This School Does Well

Brantwood creates a supportive community where pupils feel secure and confident to learn. The school excels at combining academic subjects with practical skills through its unique approach - pupils might apply maths and geometry while making jewellery or working on the farm. Staff build strong relationships with pupils quickly, particularly important for those joining after time out of education, helping them settle and engage fully in their learning.

  • Strong subject knowledge from staff, including expert craftspeople in specialist subjects
  • Excellent pastoral care with staff who understand pupils well and form trusting relationships
  • Well-maintained grounds providing outdoor learning opportunities
  • Strong careers education and work experience helping pupils prepare for adulthood

Areas for Improvement

  • Pupils sometimes lack opportunities to consolidate learning, resulting in insecure understanding and poor recall
  • Attendance rates remain too high despite initial improvements when pupils join
  • Pupils' understanding of other faiths and cultures is inconsistent and lacks depth

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with clear systems in place to keep pupils safe and staff who know pupils well and act on concerns.
