What This School Does Well

Oakdale Junior School creates a happy and safe environment where children behave exceptionally well and develop strong values like respect and resilience. The school goes above and beyond with excellent enrichment activities - from gardening and taekwondo clubs to cultural celebrations and museum trips. Teachers work hard to support all learners, including those with additional needs, ensuring most pupils achieve well by the time they leave.

  • Strong support for reading with careful identification of pupils needing extra help and highly trained staff
  • Effective support for pupils with SEND through adapted resources and the 'rainbow room' for emotional wellbeing
  • High expectations for attendance and positive attitudes to learning

Areas for Improvement

  • In a few subjects, the curriculum is not yet fully embedded and the school has not precisely identified the important content pupils should learn over time
  • Teachers in these subjects lack clarity about the small learning steps needed to check and build on pupil progress

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with clear reporting systems including worry boxes in every classroom and staff responding promptly to any issues.

Extracurricular Activities

Gardening club, taekwondo, drama, sports leaders roles, cultural day, museum trips, places of worship visits, historical workshops
