What This School Does Well

New Line Learning Academy creates a supportive and positive community where pupils feel valued and well cared for. The school has high expectations for all pupils and offers a range of trips and activities to broaden their experiences. Staff relationships with pupils are very positive, and the school is committed to removing barriers so every child can succeed.

Key Strengths

  • Behaviour and attitudes are good - pupils are respectful and understand how their behaviour impacts others
  • Personal development is a priority with carefully coordinated teaching on staying safe, respect, equality and diversity
  • School is highly inclusive and strives to remove barriers to education - pupils with special educational needs and disabilities are well supported
  • Strong pastoral care - staff are trained to help pupils feel valued and well known as individuals
  • New leadership team is working effectively to improve the school

Areas for Improvement

  • Teaching of the curriculum is inconsistent across subjects - some lessons help pupils remember knowledge well, but others do not match what the curriculum intends
  • Attendance remains a concern for a significant minority of pupils who are missing valuable learning
  • School does not check which careers education activities pupils attend, so cannot guarantee all pupils learn about apprenticeships and technical education as required
  • Pupils find it difficult to articulate and apply their learning despite having access to well-designed curriculum content

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

Extracurricular Activities

Pathways sessions, trips and activities

New Line Learning Academy is a secondary school where pupils recognise recent improvements are helping them learn and achieve more. However, inconsistencies in how the curriculum is taught mean too many pupils still struggle to apply their learning effectively.
