What This School Does Well

Mount Pleasant is an exceptionally caring school where children thrive both academically and personally. Pupils develop outstanding attitudes to learning and behaviour, supported by inspirational leadership and strong teamwork among all staff. The school excels in Early Years education and delivers much excellent teaching in writing and mathematics.

Key Strengths

  • Outstanding behaviour and safety - pupils are exceptionally well-behaved, polite and mature with a strong sense of responsibility
  • Inspirational leadership from the headteacher that has improved teaching and achievement across the school
  • Excellent care and support for all pupils with exceptional teamwork between teachers and support staff
  • Strong Early Years provision where children make an excellent start to learning
  • Good progress throughout Key Stages 1 and 2, with some pupils making excellent progress in writing and mathematics

Areas for Improvement

  • Teaching of reading is not yet outstanding, particularly in Key Stage 1, so pupils do not reach their highest standards in this skill
  • Support staff need more opportunities to learn from excellent reading teaching practices in the school
  • Need to ensure reading books for the most able pupils in Key Stage 1 are sufficiently challenging
