What This School Does Well

Lodge Primary School excels in creating a caring, positive learning environment where pupils feel safe and form strong relationships with teachers. The early years provision is particularly strong, with children in Nursery and Reception making consistently good progress. Parents engage well with the school, and most-able pupils now reach the levels expected of them across reading, writing and mathematics.

Key Strengths

  • Strong relationships between teachers and pupils create a positive atmosphere in lessons
  • Children in Nursery and Reception make consistently good progress
  • Pupils behave well and feel safe at school
  • Parents support the school well and attendance is above average

Areas for Improvement

  • Writing standards remain well below other subjects due to weak vocabulary and grammar skills
  • Disabled pupils and those with special educational needs are not catching up fast enough with their classmates
  • Teachers do not consistently ask questions requiring full sentence answers to develop language skills
  • Teachers do not always check that pupils have understood tasks or completed follow-up work correctly
  • Subject leaders' action plans are not being implemented quickly enough across all year groups

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is effective - pupils feel safe and behave well both in lessons and outside.

Extracurricular Activities

Breakfast club, sports coaching through PE lessons

Lodge Primary School requires improvement. While progress has improved and early years children make good progress, most pupils are not making fast enough progress overall, particularly in writing and mathematics.
