What This School Does Well

This school has made impressive improvements and pupils now achieve well in a welcoming, caring environment where they feel safe and valued. Early years provision is outstanding, giving children a flying start. The school works hard to support all learners, including those with additional needs, and uses enrichment activities like author visits, library trips and community litter picking to bring learning to life.

Key Strengths

  • Outstanding early years provision where children settle quickly, develop resilience and are well prepared for Year 1
  • Ambitious curriculum across all subjects with good teacher subject knowledge and regular checks on current learning
  • Consistent behaviour expectations applied across school, resulting in dramatically reduced suspensions and improved attendance
  • Strong support for pupils with SEND, including quick identification of additional needs and effective teaching adaptations
  • Well-developed personal development programme teaching tolerance, financial literacy, careers awareness and environmental responsibility

Areas for Improvement

  • Insufficient opportunities for pupils to revisit and consolidate longer term learning in some subjects, particularly where curriculum changes are recent
  • Subject leadership not fully developed in all areas, leading to some variation in curriculum implementation
  • School does not consistently check how well pupils remember previous learning

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with staff prioritising pupils' safety and wellbeing.

Extracurricular Activities

School council, visits from police and fire services, author and artist workshops, library visits, litter picking events with families, breakfast club

High Greave Infant School has improved rapidly from its previous 'Requires improvement' rating and now provides a good quality of education. The school has undergone significant transformation in curriculum, leadership and behaviour expectations, with early years provision rated as outstanding.
