Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

The school is making genuine efforts to turn things around with a strengthened leadership team and clear focus on improving reading and behaviour. Staff are receiving targeted training and feel invested in the school's improvement. The school has successfully made lessons calmer and is building more positive relationships with pupils.

Key Strengths

  • Reading support is a strong focus with trained staff delivering frequent sessions to help weaker readers catch up
  • School has reset behaviour expectations with new values ('ready, respectful, safe') and lessons are calmer than previously
  • Leadership team has been strengthened with support from the trust and external advisors to drive improvement

Areas for Improvement

  • When staff identify gaps in pupils' knowledge during lessons, these are not addressed quickly enough
  • Support for pupils with SEND needs to improve - staff do not know pupils' needs well enough and do not use adaptive learning strategies consistently
  • Too many pupils have poor attendance and punctuality, missing important learning at the start of the day
  • Suspensions remain high, particularly for pupils with SEND, though numbers are gradually declining
  • Pupil behaviour expectations are not yet fully embedded across the school

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective. The school has addressed previous weaknesses and created a new safeguarding hub to strengthen how staff work together to keep pupils safe.

Havant Academy is currently in special measures following a February 2025 inspection. The school has made some progress with new leadership and staff, but significant work remains to improve pupil achievement, behaviour, and attendance.
