What This School Does Well

The primary phase is excellent, with children making rapid progress and leaving Year 6 well prepared for secondary school. The school provides strong support for pupils' wellbeing and emotional development, with staff who genuinely care about each child. The school has successfully reduced disruptive behavior and created a calm, respectful environment where pupils feel safe and know they will be supported.

Key Strengths

  • Early years provision is exceptional - children have highly positive start with effective transition and rapid progress in language, reading and independence
  • Primary phase pupils achieve very well, including disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND - phonics attainment is high and most pupils meet national standards by Year 6
  • Strong support for pupils' social and emotional development including mood-tracker systems and extensive wellbeing provision
  • Effective inclusive culture with well-trained staff supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Behavior improvements - significant reduction in suspensions and calm, orderly school environment

Areas for Improvement

  • Secondary phase achievement lags behind - gaps remain in English and mathematics knowledge and pupils have not made expected progress over time
  • Attendance too low in secondary phase, especially for pupils with SEND, despite recent improvement efforts
  • Teaching inconsistencies in secondary phase - pupils' starting points not always considered and assessments of learning too imprecise
  • Secondary leadership recently changed due to instability - further work needed to embed improvements and raise standards consistently
  • Some pupils in secondary phase struggle to go beyond basic expectations in their work

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met - the school has established an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and pupils are made safer and feel safe.

Extracurricular Activities

Sports clubs, cadet corps, careers fair, apprenticeship events, trips, leadership roles, wide range of clubs

Bloxwich Academy is a school with two distinct phases: a strong primary phase where pupils achieve very well, and a secondary phase that has experienced significant instability and is working to improve standards. The school has established an open culture where safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and concerns are actively managed.
