How the free breakfast clubs work
A school on the programme must run a breakfast club that is open to every pupil on roll from Reception to Year 6, lasts at least 30 minutes immediately before the start of each school day, is free, and serves a breakfast that meets the school food standards. The club is held at the school or close to it.
Some schools also run a longer, paid-for club that starts earlier. No child can be made to attend the paid-for time to get the free 30 minutes, and schools must not add charges that would put families off using the free club.
The Department for Education adds schools to its list as they join the programme, and we check the list every month. If your child's school is not listed yet, ask the school whether it has joined. Not for the free part. A school on the programme must offer at least 30 minutes of breakfast club free of charge, immediately before the school day, to every pupil from Reception to Year 6.
