What This School Does Well

This is a caring school where pupils feel valued and enjoy their learning. Reading is a real strength - children develop into confident, fluent readers who love books. The school has high expectations for all pupils, including those with additional needs, and provides an ambitious curriculum with plenty of opportunities to develop talents through activities like dance, judo and archery.

Key Strengths

  • Reading is a strength - pupils read carefully chosen texts matched to their abilities and enjoy reading for pleasure
  • Ambitious curriculum that builds knowledge from Reception through Year 6, with clear focus on what pupils should learn
  • Strong support for pupils with SEND, who achieve well and participate fully in lessons
  • Positive pupil behaviour - pupils move around school calmly and follow school values
  • Early years children benefit from language and number-rich environment that builds solid foundations

Areas for Improvement

  • Early writing teaching is not as effective as it should be - writing resources and activities are not always matched to children's needs, leading to misconceptions in letter formation, spelling and punctuation
  • In some subjects, teachers do not effectively identify and address gaps and misconceptions in pupils' knowledge
  • Some pupils are not building sufficiently on their previous learning as a result

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with the school creating a positive culture that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

Dance, judo, archery, outdoor learning sessions, residential trips for older pupils, school council, buddy system

Wray with Botton Endowed Primary School has maintained good standards since its last inspection. Pupils enjoy learning in a warm, positive environment where they feel valued and well cared for.
