Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Winnersh Primary is a welcoming, diverse community where your child will feel they belong and be encouraged to do their best. The school excels at teaching reading and writing, with results above national averages, and provides excellent enrichment through clubs, sports, dance, and exciting trips including a Year 6 residential visit with adventurous activities.

Key Strengths

  • Warm, inclusive community where pupils feel they belong and value each other's differences
  • Strong teaching of reading and writing with phonics outcomes above national averages
  • Effective identification and support for pupils with special educational needs
  • Comprehensive enrichment programme including extensive after-school clubs and educational visits
  • Teachers have strong subject knowledge and check pupils' understanding effectively

Areas for Improvement

  • Support for pupils who have not kept up with early reading is inconsistent and not as effective as it could be
  • In some wider curriculum subjects, the most important knowledge to learn is not clearly defined, with too much content for teachers to meaningfully cover
  • Learning activities in some wider curriculum subjects are not focused sharply enough on intended learning, so pupils do not build or deepen knowledge well enough

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with leaders and staff creating an open and positive culture that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

Sports clubs, street dance, geographer's guild, chess, lunchtime activities, Year 6 residential visit with abseiling and mountain hikes

Winnersh Primary School is a happy, inclusive school where pupils love learning and achieve well. The school has maintained good standards and strengthened its mathematics and wider curriculum since the previous inspection.
