What This School Does Well

UTC Swindon has worked hard to create a calmer, more focused learning environment. New leadership has introduced clear teaching methods that help all pupils learn better, and attendance and behaviour have improved significantly. The school is also paying special attention to supporting pupils with additional needs.

Key Strengths

  • New leadership team has created 'The Swindon Way' - a shared approach to teaching based on educational research that helps pupils build long-term memory
  • Significant improvements in behaviour and attendance, with fewer suspensions and pupils removed from lessons
  • Consistent teaching focus on identifying gaps in pupils' knowledge and supporting those with special educational needs

Areas for Improvement

  • Phonics reading support has been planned but not yet delivered to pupils who need it
  • School needs to focus more closely on measuring the impact of changes they have made
  • Some weakness areas from the previous inspection still need to be fully addressed

UTC Swindon has made progress in improving the school since its last inspection, with new leadership implementing a structured approach to teaching and behaviour. However, some aspects still need further improvement, particularly in delivering phonics support for reading.
