Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Robert Le Kyng Primary creates a caring, inclusive environment where every child is seen for what they can do. Reading is a real priority - the school works hard to teach phonics consistently and involves parents through special events. Pupils are happy, well-behaved and achieve well in reading, writing and mathematics, with particularly strong support for children who need extra help or speak English as an additional language.

Key Strengths

  • Strong, consistent leadership with clear roles and responsibilities at all levels - staff feel valued and trusted
  • Excellent support for reading from Reception onwards, with well-trained staff and regular parent engagement through reading workshops and events
  • Outstanding provision for pupils who need to catch up, including those who speak English as an additional language and those with special educational needs
  • Positive school environment where pupils are happy, safe, secure and behave well
  • Good achievement in reading, writing and mathematics with a well-organised curriculum across all subjects

Areas for Improvement

  • Pupils do not always make confident links between their previous learning and new concepts, so they do not build as secure an understanding as intended
  • The school needs to ensure pupils develop deeper knowledge and understanding of key concepts as they progress through the curriculum

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective, with school leaders committed to keeping pupils safe and secure.

Extracurricular Activities

Reading workshops, reading breakfast events, sports activities, outside activities and learning experiences outside the classroom

Robert Le Kyng Primary School is a well-led, diverse school where every pupil can thrive and belong, providing a highly inclusive and positive environment. The school has maintained the standards identified at its previous inspection with effective leadership and strong pupil outcomes.
