What This School Does Well
Tibshelf Community School creates a warm, respectful environment where pupils feel genuinely cared for and happy to learn. Teachers have high expectations of all pupils and provide excellent support to help them succeed, with particularly strong provision for pupils with special educational needs. The school goes well beyond academics, offering extensive trips, clubs and enrichment activities to develop pupils' talents, confidence and understanding of the wider world.
Key Strengths
- Excellent pastoral care and mental health support, with staff knowing pupils very well and quickly identifying when they need help
- Strong culture of respect and behaviour, with pupils being polite, kind and tolerant of each other
- Comprehensive careers programme with university visits, work experience and individualised careers advice
- Extensive enrichment activities including overseas visits, sports, performing arts and outdoor pursuits
- Highly inclusive approach ensuring pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils have equal access to all opportunities
Areas for Improvement
- Occasionally teachers do not check pupils' learning carefully enough to identify and address misconceptions
- Monitoring of individual pupils' progress for those with SEND is not always rigorous enough, leading to imprecise targets
- Consistency in curriculum delivery across all subjects needs improvement
- More rigorous evaluation of strategies needed to ensure they have real impact
