Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Tewkesbury Academy has transformed significantly and now provides ambitious pupils with a broad, tailored curriculum including strong reading support and specialist help for those who need it. The school creates a strong sense of belonging through student leadership roles and extra-curricular activities, while also preparing pupils effectively for their future careers and next steps through comprehensive guidance and employer engagement.

Key Strengths

  • Strong focus on reading support - pupils who struggle are quickly identified and receive effective help to improve confidence and fluency
  • Effective identification and support for pupils with SEND, enabling them to learn as well as their peers
  • Significant improvements to sixth-form provision through curriculum changes and better student support
  • Clear behaviour expectations with fair sanctions and rewards system
  • Effective attendance tracking and targeted support, resulting in reduced persistent absence

Areas for Improvement

  • Inconsistent implementation of behaviour expectations - sometimes high standards are not upheld across school, disrupting pupils' learning
  • Limited communication between school and parents about improvements made
  • Insufficient opportunities for parents and staff to provide constructive feedback to the school

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with school leaders ensuring pupils have trusted adults to help with concerns and clear anti-bullying policies in place.

Extracurricular Activities

Craft club, Voice Box, fishing club, sports teams, musical performances at Tewkesbury Abbey, student council, house system leadership roles, employer visits, Futures programme

Tewkesbury Academy has made significant improvements since joining the Cabot Learning Federation trust in July 2023, moving from 'Requires improvement' to 'Good' across all key areas. The school is now creating a safe, ambitious environment where pupils are increasingly successful in achieving qualifications.
