What This School Does Well

Star Primary creates a welcoming, safe environment where all pupils - including those from different ethnic backgrounds and those learning English as an additional language - are encouraged to learn and thrive. Teachers plan engaging activities and projects that capture children's interest and motivate hard work. Behaviour throughout the school is outstanding, with pupils showing excellent attitudes to learning and strong relationships with each other and staff.

Key Strengths

  • Outstanding behaviour and safety - pupils are polite, considerate and feel extremely safe at school
  • Good teaching with interesting activities and whole-school projects that engage and motivate pupils
  • Strong support for pupils with special educational needs and additional learning needs
  • Effective phonics teaching that has improved reading standards
  • Excellent relationships between pupils and staff

Areas for Improvement

  • Higher attaining pupils are not always challenged early enough in lessons with difficult work
  • Teaching quality checks do not always focus sharply on how well teaching improves pupils' learning and progress
  • Some classes do not provide detailed enough feedback to help pupils reach the highest levels
  • Occasional lessons have pupils listening to explanations for too long before starting practical work

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is effective - pupils feel very safe at school and have excellent knowledge of how to keep themselves safe from harm through anti-bullying events, personal safety advice, and guidance on safe use of public transport and computers.

Extracurricular Activities

Breakfast clubs, after-school clubs, French lessons, music, art, physical education, school council, prefects, house captains, Year 6 book project

Star Primary School is a good school where pupils from all backgrounds achieve well due to good quality teaching and excellent behaviour. Attainment by the end of Year 6 is broadly average, with pupils making good progress from lower starting points.
