Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Staniland Academy excels at helping all children succeed, with staff going the extra mile to support disadvantaged pupils and those learning English as an additional language. Children get an exceptional start in the early years and develop a genuine love of reading through expert phonics teaching. Parents report that staff always have their child's best interests at heart, and pupils behave exceptionally well because they understand and embrace the school's high expectations.

Key Strengths

  • Excellent phonics teaching and a passionate approach to developing confident, enthusiastic readers
  • Ambitious, well-structured curriculum with clear knowledge progression in most subjects
  • Highly effective support for disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs
  • Outstanding early years provision where children are highly motivated and well-prepared for key stage 1
  • Strong school culture with excellent behaviour, respect, and positive pupil attitudes to learning

Areas for Improvement

  • Some foundation subjects do not effectively revisit and consolidate prior learning, so pupils struggle to remember key content over time
  • Pupils need greater opportunities to develop deeper understanding of different world religions and faiths

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective, with staff creating an open and positive culture that puts pupils' interests first.

Extracurricular Activities

Before- and after-school club, daily story times, VE celebration assembly

Staniland Academy is a welcoming primary school where pupils and staff have positive relationships and high expectations for behaviour and achievement. The school provides high-quality education with particularly outstanding early years provision.
