What This School Does Well

This is a friendly, caring school where children genuinely enjoy learning and feel valued. Teachers work closely with teaching assistants to support all pupils, including those with additional needs, so everyone makes good progress. The school excels at teaching reading and has excellent feedback systems in English and mathematics that help pupils understand how to improve their work.

Key Strengths

  • Pupils make good progress in reading and writing with well above average results in the Year 1 national reading check
  • Effective support from teachers and teaching assistants helps disabled pupils, those with special educational needs, and disadvantaged pupils achieve well
  • Excellent marking and feedback in mathematics and English with 'read and respond' time allowing pupils to act on comments
  • Strong behavior and attendance - pupils are polite, respectful and attendance is above average
  • Good Early Years provision that prepares children well for Year 1

Areas for Improvement

  • Not enough teaching is outstanding - teachers need more opportunities to observe and share best practice
  • Work is not always challenging enough, particularly for the most able pupils
  • Mathematics teaching is less imaginative and engaging compared to English lessons
  • Limited use of ICT across the school - pupils only sometimes use the computer suite
  • Marking in topic work does not match the high quality seen in mathematics and English

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective - pupils feel safe and well cared for, with confidence in staff to help resolve problems quickly and fairly.
