What This School Does Well

St Anne's creates a caring, respectful environment where children feel safe and behave well. The school has strong links with the local church and community, supporting pupils' spiritual and moral development. When teaching is at its best, pupils make excellent progress and develop strong literacy and numeracy skills.

Key Strengths

  • Children in Reception make rapid progress and get a good start
  • Pupils behave well, feel safe, and attendance is high
  • Some classes have outstanding teaching with pupils making exceptionally good progress
  • Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is a particular strength
  • New headteacher has quickly identified areas needing improvement

Areas for Improvement

  • Not enough pupils make good progress - work is sometimes too easy for their ability level
  • Some teachers do not give clear guidance on how pupils can improve their work
  • Teachers' instructions are sometimes unclear, leaving pupils confused about what they need to do
  • New subject leaders need to develop skills in analyzing pupil progress data
  • Governing body has vacancies, limiting oversight of school improvement

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is effective - the school has clear procedures for child protection and staff are rigorously checked prior to appointment.

Extracurricular Activities

Boxercise, specialist sports coaching, lunchtime activities, inter-school sports competitions, playground games led by older pupils

St Anne's Catholic Primary School is a smaller than average primary school that requires improvement. While children get a good start in Reception and behaviour is good, not enough pupils make good progress throughout the school and teaching quality is inconsistent.
