What This School Does Well

Seva Education creates a warm, welcoming environment where staff know pupils well and support their emotional development excellently. The school combines strong academics with therapeutic support tailored to each pupil's needs, helping them succeed in learning and personal growth. Pupils benefit from enriching experiences including planetarium visits, allotment work, community activities, and a range of lunchtime clubs that help them explore interests and develop independence.

Key Strengths

  • Outstanding behaviour and attitudes with excellent emotional support strategies - pupils feel happy and safe
  • Strong phonics-based reading programme with expert staff delivery and daily reading sessions
  • Ambitious curriculum tailored to individual needs with effective assessment of pupils' starting points
  • Excellent pupil voice through democratic school council with real influence on school decisions
  • Strong post-16 provision preparing older students for adulthood through functional and vocational skills

Areas for Improvement

  • Teaching and support staff consistency - some lessons lack effectiveness in promoting learning and pupil independence
  • Early writing curriculum still being developed and requires further refinement
  • Some elements of new PSHE provision are at early implementation stage
  • Occasionally support staff intervene too quickly, limiting pupils' chances to build independence

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with improved recording of concerns and robust procedures in place.

Extracurricular Activities

Yoga club, art club, make-up club, Italian club, planetarium visits, allotment gardening, shopping trips, cooking and baking, public transport training, careers talks from army/police/cyber security sectors, hotel work experience, community litter picking, charity fundraising walks

Seva Education is a special school for pupils aged 7-25 with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. The school has improved significantly since its last inspection, with strong leadership changes, a revised curriculum, and excellent pupil behaviour.
