What This School Does Well

Scientia Academy is a caring school where your child will feel safe and included. Teachers know the curriculum well and explain things clearly so children understand what they are learning. The school offers fantastic opportunities beyond the classroom - from outdoor adventures and sports to music and leadership roles - that help develop your child's character and confidence.

Key Strengths

  • Well-planned, ambitious curriculum with clear focus on key vocabulary and skills - particularly improved spelling, punctuation and grammar teaching
  • Effective phonics teaching and prioritization of early reading, with pupils becoming confident, independent readers
  • Strong emphasis on character development through unique '11before11' programme where all pupils hike, camp and grow food
  • Clear behavior expectations and positive school culture where pupils demonstrate kindness, respect and responsibility
  • High-quality pastoral support and wide range of clubs and enrichment activities that pupils enjoy

Areas for Improvement

  • Some staff do not follow individual support plans well enough for pupils with additional needs, affecting their access to curriculum and progress
  • Attendance and punctuality remain a concern, particularly for disadvantaged pupils and those with SEND who are persistently absent and missing important learning
  • Need to strengthen partnership working with parents to address specific barriers causing poor attendance

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with strong systems in place to keep pupils safe.

Extracurricular Activities

School council, 11before11 hiking and camping programme, football, netball, zorbing, physical education clubs, lunchtime health clubs, forest school, musical instrument lessons, sporting competitions

Scientia Academy is a happy and welcoming school where pupils feel safe, cared for, and proud of their diverse and inclusive community. The school has maintained good standards with well-planned curriculum and effective phonics teaching, though some pupils with additional support needs are not accessing the curriculum fully.
