Staff are ambitious for all pupils and provide a rich curriculum with plenty of exciting learning experiences, from Jurassic Coast trips to developing new skills through sports and competitions.

Key Strengths

  • Well-designed curriculum from Reception to Year 6 with clear sequencing of knowledge - especially strong in early reading where children learn phonics systematically
  • Strong focus on pupils' personal development, teaching them about different religions, cultures, and healthy relationships
  • Excellent pre-school provision with staff who help children develop confident communication and wide vocabulary
  • Regular enrichment activities carefully linked to the curriculum, such as visits to the Jurassic Coast
  • Supportive school community where pupils feel valued and develop resilience through sporting events and local participation

Areas for Improvement

  • In a few subjects, teachers' checks on what pupils have learned do not consistently identify whether pupils have grasped the intended curriculum, meaning some pupils continue with gaps in their knowledge
