What This School Does Well
Sacred Heart is a truly inclusive school where every child feels they belong. Staff take time to get to know each pupil as an individual and adapt their teaching to help them succeed. Children have wonderful opportunities to develop their talents, from leading school events to reading with the school dog Amber, and the early years provision is particularly exceptional.
Key Strengths
- Exceptional behaviour and attitudes - classrooms are calm and pupils show maturity and mutual respect with staff
- Outstanding early years provision - children make an excellent start with caring staff who build secure relationships
- Outstanding personal development - pupils take leadership roles seriously and develop sophisticated understanding of topics like neurodiversity and empathy
- Strong reading support - most pupils read fluently by the end of Key Stage 1, with extra help for those who struggle
- Inclusive environment - all pupils feel valued and supported with their individual needs, including those learning English as an additional language
Areas for Improvement
- Errors in spelling, punctuation and handwriting are not consistently identified and corrected, so some pupils repeat the same mistakes over time
- In some subjects, staff do not always spot gaps in pupils' knowledge quickly enough through checks on learning
- Some pupils do not recall knowledge as fluently as they should because misconceptions are not addressed promptly enough
