Ofsted Insights

From Ofsted's November 2024 inspection report.

What This School Does Well

Gosford Park creates a warm, inclusive community where children feel safe and develop strong relationships with caring adults. The school excels at supporting pupils with additional needs and developing their personal and social skills through a well-structured curriculum. Pupils are encouraged to take responsibility and become active citizens through activities like play leadership and community involvement.

Key Strengths

  • Strong relationships between adults and pupils, with a warm and caring school community
  • Well-developed personal, social and health education curriculum that supports pupils' understanding of health, safety and respecting others
  • Effective identification of pupils with SEND and appropriate provision to help them make progress towards their targets
  • Staff are committed and proud to work at the school
  • Pupils take pride in the school community and develop into active and responsible citizens

Areas for Improvement

  • Curriculum is not consistently well implemented and the school does not sufficiently monitor its impact on pupil learning
  • Teaching of phonics is inconsistent and some pupils are not reading well enough, with limited opportunities for regular reading support
  • Work is not always sufficiently challenging, meaning some pupils become distracted and do not learn as quickly as they could
  • Gaps in pupils' knowledge are not identified, particularly in mathematics, preventing deep understanding
  • Early years activities and resources lack focus, and adult interactions do not consistently develop children's knowledge and communication skills
  • Pupil absence remains too high despite recent strengthening of attendance approaches

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective with clear safeguarding procedures in place and strong adult-pupil relationships that help pupils identify trusted adults.

Extracurricular Activities

athletics, dodgeball, librarian responsibilities, play leader roles, litter picking, school trips, before-school club

Gosford Park Primary School is a friendly school with a strong and caring ethos where pupils feel safe and enjoy learning. However, the quality of education requires improvement as the curriculum is not implemented consistently well and pupil achievement, particularly in mathematics, is not improving over time.
