What This School Does Well

Rawmarsh Nursery excels at helping children make rapid progress, particularly those starting below typical development levels, so they leave school ready for Reception. The school has created an exciting outdoor learning environment and staff are exceptionally skilled at developing children's communication and language through creative, engaging activities. Parents consistently praise the nursery - 100% responding were happy and would recommend the school - and they benefit from strong partnerships that help them support learning at home.

Key Strengths

  • Excellent outdoor learning environment with highly skilled staff who effectively develop children's communication, language and mathematical understanding
  • Strong focus on early language development through innovative programmes like 'talking tigers' and 'Mr Tig Tog' that successfully support all children including those new to English
  • Highly effective teaching and personalised curriculum tailored to children's interests, resulting in rapid progress from starting points
  • Inclusive approach where children with special educational needs and disabilities make excellent progress alongside peers
  • Strong partnerships with parents through activities like 'stay and play', 'potty parties' and detailed guidance on supporting learning at home

Areas for Improvement

  • Governors need to develop stronger challenge and questioning of school leaders, with not all governors fully conversant with current educational practices
  • Further development and sharing of high quality teaching practices across the nursery

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is effective, with all staff trained to identify abuse, regular knowledge quizzes in place, robust policies and risk assessments that clearly address needs of vulnerable children including those with medical needs and allergies.

Extracurricular Activities

Stay and play, potty parties, World Explorers outdoor exploration, talking tigers language group, Mr Tig Tog sound activities, talk boost groups, Charlie chatters groups, faith and cultural celebration activities

Rawmarsh Nursery School continues to be outstanding, with leadership that has maintained and further improved educational quality since the 2014 inspection. The school provides excellent teaching that helps children, many starting below typical development levels, to leave school well-prepared for Reception.
