What This School Does Well

Peel Park is a welcoming school that helps children thrive, especially those new to the country or starting school behind their peers. Staff know the children well, behaviour is positive, and the school celebrates different cultures through culture days and shared learning. The school works hard on reading and provides excellent support for children who need extra help.

Key Strengths

  • Strong phonics teaching and early reading support, with most pupils reading well by end of Year 2
  • Exceptional support for pupils with special educational needs through personalised learning opportunities
  • Welcoming and culturally rich environment that helps pupils new to the country settle quickly
  • Positive behaviour and strong relationships between staff and pupils
  • Ambitious extended curriculum with many after-school clubs including knitting club and science club

Areas for Improvement

  • Some pupils do not receive activities matched to their ability level - tasks are sometimes too easy or too difficult
  • Teaching strategies are not consistently applied across all subjects and staff
  • Areas identified for improvement are not always addressed quickly enough

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective.

Extracurricular Activities

Breakfast club, knitting club, science club, after-school clubs, external visitors discussing careers and important topics

Peel Park is a vibrant and happy school with Good ratings across all areas. The school successfully supports many pupils who are new to the country and have lower starting points, with strong teaching in phonics and exceptional support for pupils with special educational needs.
