Ofsted's report card, in its own words
What it's like to be a pupil at Park View Primary School
Pupils are happy at Park View Primary School and take pride in its rich and diverse community. They enjoy coming to school and speak positively about the many languages and cultures that are represented here. Pupils of all backgrounds feel that they belong. They build positive relationships with each other and with staff, who know them well and provide support when needed. This helps many pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), to take part in lessons and the wider life of the school. Pupils enjoy their learning and generally achieve well. They develop secure knowledge and skills and are prepared appropriately for the next stage of their education. Pupils with SEND make progress from their starting points. However, disadvantaged pupils do not typically achieve as well as their peers in some areas. Pupils benefit from a range of wider opportunities that support their personal development. They value clubs such as choir, netball and art. Many take part regularly. Events such as aspirations week, where parents and carers talk about their jobs, help pupils to think about future possibilities. These experiences contribute to pupils' enjoyment of school. Pupils know that their views are valued. Through the school council, they have contributed to improvements, such as the installation of a new bike shed. These opportunities help pupils to develop confidence and a sense of responsibility. Pupils generally behave well in lessons and at social times. They treat one another with respect and understand the school's high expectations. If bullying happens, staff deal with it quickly. Pupils feel safe and are taught how to keep themselves safe, including online. They trust staff to help them with any concerns. Most pupils attend regularly and appreciate the importance of being in school.
What Ofsted says the school should do next
- Leaders should make sure that their work to improve the curriculum, assessment and the use of pupil premium funding leads to disadvantaged pupils achieving as well as their peers, particularly in reading and mathematics.
- Leaders should make sure that all activities in the early years consistently extend children's learning, so that children build knowledge and skills as effectively as possible across all areas of learning.
