What This School Does Well

Pace excels at helping pupils with behaviour and social-emotional difficulties get back on track with their learning. The school provides a nurturing environment where pupils feel safe and cared for, with staff who are patient, skilled, and never give up on any pupil. The curriculum is enriched with horticulture, live music, and visits that support both academic skills and personal development.

Key Strengths

  • Pupils make good progress in literacy and numeracy with learning needs carefully assessed and met
  • Teaching is good with senior teaching assistants making a very significant contribution to pupil achievement
  • Behaviour is usually good because pupils try hard to meet high expectations set by staff
  • Pupils feel safe and cared for well with individual needs met very well
  • School is well-led by senior leaders who work as a cohesive team with shared aspirations

Areas for Improvement

  • Standards and progress in writing are not as high as in reading and mathematics
  • Marking does not always provide pupils with precise information about how to improve
  • Monitoring and performance management does not always have a sharp focus on pupils' progress in school subjects

Safeguarding

Safeguarding practice is effective, with all staff understanding safeguarding well, concerns promptly notified to appropriate agencies, and all policies meeting statutory requirements.

Extracurricular Activities

Horticulture, live music performances, visiting speakers, circle time discussions on national and global issues

Pace is a good Pupil Referral Unit that helps pupils re-engage with learning and make good progress in their personal development. Pupils are well-prepared for the next stage of their education through carefully assessed learning needs and good teaching.
