Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

This is a caring, inclusive school where every child feels welcomed and safe. Staff build strong relationships with families and provide excellent support for pupils with additional needs. The school creates exciting experiences for pupils through clubs, trips and special events, and actively removes barriers to help all pupils participate.

Key Strengths

  • Strong safeguarding culture with clear systems and open communication
  • Excellent support for pupils with additional needs and those in the Specialist Resource Base
  • Well-developed personal development programme including clubs, choir concerts and enrichment activities
  • Positive behaviour and relationships throughout the school
  • Inclusive approach where every pupil feels welcome and valued

Areas for Improvement

  • Overall achievement is too low, especially for disadvantaged pupils
  • Curriculum is not being taught consistently, so pupils have gaps in their knowledge
  • Too many children do not reach expected levels in reading, writing and numeracy by end of Reception
  • Pupils do not persist with difficult tasks and sometimes need refocusing
  • Attendance needs improvement despite school's efforts

Safeguarding

Safeguarding standards are met - the school has an open culture of safeguarding where all legal requirements are fulfilled and pupils feel safe.

Extracurricular Activities

National choir concert, recycling project, playtime cooperative activities, trips to nature reserves, clubs and events

Oasis Academy Long Cross is a welcoming school where pupils feel safe and supported, with strong relationships between staff, families and pupils. However, achievement is a concern, with too many pupils not making the progress they should, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
