What This School Does Well
Nythe is a caring school where children are happy and behaviour has improved significantly. Reading is a real strength with excellent phonics training, and the early years provision is particularly strong. The school has worked hard to create a rich curriculum that includes enriching experiences like trips to the theatre and clubs in music, drama and gardening.
Key Strengths
- Reading is a priority with high-quality phonics training, resulting in more capable readers
- Early years staff excel at developing children's communication and language skills through stories and play
- Behaviour has improved significantly with pupils responding well to the school's values and expectations
- The school has strengthened its curriculum and pupils revisit prior learning to remember key content
- Support for pupils with SEND has improved with personalised help and staff training
Areas for Improvement
- Some staff lack subject expertise to teach the curriculum with the intended rigour, creating gaps in pupils' understanding
- Staff do not consistently check what pupils know and remember with enough precision, meaning gaps are not closed quickly
- Some staff do not maintain high expectations for pupils' written work, with handwriting, spelling and punctuation errors not being routinely corrected
Safeguarding
Safeguarding arrangements are effective and the school has created an open culture that puts pupils' interests first.
Extracurricular Activities
Choir, gardening club, drama club, school councillor roles, playleader roles, theatre trips
Nythe Primary School is a happy and caring place where pupils' achievement is improving following recent leadership changes. However, positive changes to teaching and curriculum have not yet fully impacted all pupils' learning.
