Marion Richardson provides an excellent learning environment where pupils develop strong reading, writing and mathematical skills. Children from diverse backgrounds, including many who speak English as an additional language, are supported to become fluent readers and confident learners. The school has outstanding pupil behaviour and creates a nurturing, safe community where all children are encouraged to do their best.

- Pupils' behaviour is exemplary in lessons and around the school, with bullying being very rare and excellent attitudes to learning
- Pupils achieve high standards by Year 6 in English and mathematics, with progress stronger than other pupils nationally
- The newly appointed headteacher has brought rapid improvements and is skilfully involving leaders in school improvement
- The curriculum offers many opportunities including a range of clubs, sporting and musical events
- Early Years children settle well and make good progress despite starting with skills well below average
Areas for Improvement
- Teachers do not always give pupils enough opportunities to discuss in lessons and identify their own next steps for learning
- More able pupils are not always given work that challenges them from the start of lessons
- Marking is not consistently strong in mathematics - guidance on improvement is not always clear and pupils are not given regular opportunities to respond to written comments
- Teachers spend too much time talking in lessons, limiting opportunities for deeper pupil responses and reflection
