Ofsted Insights

What This School Does Well

Manor Wood is a warm, inclusive school where every child is known as an individual and their well-being is prioritised. Pupils develop strong character alongside academic skills, with excellent support for those who need it. The school creates confident, independent learners from the early years onwards.

Key Strengths

  • Carefully sequenced curriculum that builds knowledge progressively across all subjects, with strong phonics teaching in early reading
  • Highly ambitious for all pupils with effective support for those with additional needs to access the full curriculum
  • Exceptional early years provision that is well-resourced and encourages confident, independent learners
  • Strong personal development with rich leadership opportunities and age-appropriate learning about healthy relationships and equality
  • Calm, purposeful classrooms where pupils work collaboratively and staff provide regular feedback to keep them on track

Areas for Improvement

  • Some phonics writing tasks in Key Stage 1 are too complex, preventing pupils from practising the sounds they are learning
  • In some subjects, checks on prior learning do not focus enough on the most important knowledge pupils need to remember, leading to gaps
  • Some recall activities lack sufficient detail to ensure key curriculum content is recapped well enough

Safeguarding

Safeguarding arrangements are effective.

Extracurricular Activities

Reading ambassadors, pupil voice roles, RP reps, before- and after-school club, forest area exploration

Manor Wood Primary School has effectively maintained the outstanding standards from its previous inspection. The school is an inclusive, welcoming community where pupils feel happy, safe and proud to learn.
