What This School Does Well

The school has responded with determination to improve behaviour and is making strong progress on using pupil data to support children's learning. Teachers are receiving better training and support, and there is clear evidence that most pupils are making improved progress as a result.

Key Strengths

  • Rapid introduction of effective new behaviour policy resulting in good behaviour in lessons and around school
  • Teachers making better use of pupil progress information to plan support and target intervention
  • Sharper monitoring of teaching quality through work scrutiny, drop-in visits, learning walks, and observations

Areas for Improvement

  • Too many separate improvement documents that are not cross-referenced, making it hard to see how success will be achieved
  • Action plans do not extend far enough into the future to show readiness for a 'good' grade
  • Partnerships with other schools not yet developed enough for teachers to experience best practice
  • Monitoring activities do not clearly identify and share the best teaching practice across the school

Safeguarding

No specific safeguarding finding mentioned in the report.

Longlands Primary School was judged to require improvement in January 2013. This monitoring visit in June 2013 found that senior leaders, governors, and staff have acted quickly to address previous concerns, with improved behaviour and better use of pupil progress information.
